S/Y DREAM

Ship register OU 3065

We know that the ship was build at Schleiting Werft in Lübeck, Germany, as number 5 of a series. In 1973 it was launched. The ship came to Denmark in 1983, where it was partially reconstructed.

At least one of the ships in the series has been around the world, we do not quite know if it’s this ship. One thing is certain; DREAM has been in the Caribbean Sea – Venezuela, Norway (3 times) – crossed the North Sea more than once and at the latest been around the Mediterranean.

The ship was originally yawl-rigged, but was presumably sloop-rigged in 1984. At the same time the keel-weight has been increased some. The ship is perfect balance and is a distinct tough-weather-ship. When the ship was reconstructed the stern-cabin was expanded. The cabin has become wider and has been led all the way back over the stern-room, which have made this almost twice as big.

Till the departure date, 1. Aug. 1999, following improvements have been made on the ship: an extra bunks (a pipe-bunk) in the front-cabin, so now there are 6 bunks aboard. The Mast on the stern-cabin with speakers, horn and GPS-antenna has been removed and used as one of the pipes in the bulk. To get an alternative source of energy a windmill has been bought and put up. On the windmill some of the things that used to be on the stern- mast have been affixed. The old bowsprit is in such a condition that we found it unable to go through with a circumnavigation of the globe, which is why it has been exchanged with a new, stronger bowsprit made of stainless steal.
